Key 8 Word Processor Mode
by
Marion Stanton
- Key 8 Symbol Chat Mode is a development from Key 8 and is designed for AAC users who have some literacy skills to use for communication. However, there is a good word prediction built in and there are pages for symbol based communication which can be further developed using the auto content function. The idea of Key 8 Symbol Chat is that the person who has a lot to say but limited movement can access a vocabulary with some ease. This version of Key 8 in the Key series also has a rest button on every page to support eye gaze and switch use.
Key 8 Word Processor Mode is part of the Key Series which we have designed to support a group of AAC users who find a large number of cells on a page difficult to access. The number in the title denotes the number of cells that the vocabulary has on a page. A unique word prediction system is built in to the Key's 8, 12 and 24 enabling the user to find the word they want very quickly despite the need to navigate through letters that are bunched together. Key 48 is designed for the cognitively able AAC user who has moderate access difficulties so that a larger number of cells on a page present a problem.

Halving Demo
by
Simon Judge
- A demonstration of the 'halving' (also called scan-direct) method of switch access. This access method is a 'coded' method - each switch represents half of the screen (e.g. red switch =left, blue switch = right) and pressing a switch selects the corresponding side of the screen. This can offer a potentially quick method of access, but also one that can be learnt - since the switch presses are always the same. It would be of most benefit to people who have no problems with repeated switch presses and have the ability to learn the motor planning to make the method automatic.
-
Halving Demo - Alternative Method
by
This is an ALTERNATIVE METHOD of implementing halving that allows for auditory feedback to be incorporated to aid learning.
